SOH - CAH - TOA

The sine, cosine, and tangent are all trigonometric ratios. A helpful mnemonic for remembering which sides each of these ratios compare is SOH - CAH - TOA

SOH - sine is opposite over hypotenuse

\sin(\theta) = \frac{\text{opposite}}{\text{hypotenuse}}

CAH - cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse

\cos(\theta) = \frac{\text{adjacent}}{\text{hypotenuse}}

TOA - tangent is opposite over adjacent

\tan(\theta) = \frac{\text{opposite}}{\text{adjacent}}

What is the cosine of 53.13 degrees?

SOLUTION: 3/5

What is the tangent of 53.13 degrees?

SOLUTION: 4/3
